Students in the School of Arts and Sciences have been involved in international study programs for over 40 years, when the Tropical Biology program started. Today, biology majors and students from other disciplines continue to learn about the culture, marine and terrestrial habitats in biology courses that take them to the rainforests of Costa Rica and salt-water ecosystems of the Bahamas (check out Tropical Biology)
Today, the international study opportunities at Eastern take students all over the globe in programs conducted in Wintersession, early and late summer. They undertake a journey of self-discovery, with coursework that helps them expand their creativity in music composition, writing, and theatrical performance, or in study tours that allow them to learn other languages and how different cultural and governmental systems resolve social problems and environmental issues or global concern. Enhanced appreciation for the world’s natural wonders, cultural folkloric treasures and history is ultimately the major learning outcome of international study opportunities for exploration in the School of Arts and Sciences.
