Many of today’s emerging careers require that students combine proficiency in more than one discipline to be competent to address current areas of concern in health, business, environmental or social sciences. At Eastern, the School of Arts and Sciences facilitates the process for students who want to design their appropriate combination of courses from two or more areas of study, in the Individualized Major program. The Individualized Major provides students two faculty advisors, one from each of the two main disciplines being combined and helps them to integrate any previous coursework (such as community college certificate programs) into targeted plans of study for 21st century careers. Some of the most common Individualized Major self-designed major programs, have focused on sustainability studies, cognitive neuroscience, physical therapy, public health and video game design (check out the Individualized Major website).
For students who are interested in interdisciplinary minors, such as Asian Studies, Public Health, Latin American Studies, Gaming Design, Sustainable Energy Studies, check out the many interdisciplinary minors we have available in the School of Arts and Sciences, in Eastern’s online catalog.
