Foundation President’s Message

A Message from the Foundation President

Dear Alumni and Friends of Eastern:

JustinMurphyThank you! Once again, thanks to you, total giving to the ECSU Foundation, Inc., exceeded $2 million for the seventh straight year! As a result of your benevolence, the Foundation has been able to award $2.1 million in scholarships over the past four years, including a record $700,000 in scholarship awards for fiscal year 2019.

In addition to having supportive alumni and friends, Eastern is fortunate to have great leadership. Thanks to Dr. Núñez and the faculty and staff at Eastern, the University was ranked number 30 among public universities in the North Region in last fall’s U.S. News and World Report “Best Colleges” rankings, once again the highest ranking of the four CSU institutions. Eastern was also named to the national Great Colleges “Honor Roll,” one of only 42 institutions named to this exclusive club. This is the fourth year in a row that Eastern has been named to the honor roll. Eastern was also named a Green College by The Princeton Review for the ninth year in a row.

Despite your incredible generosity and the fact that the Foundation has added 54 new endowed scholarships totaling $6.8 million since Dr. Núñez arrived on campus, the need for your support continues. The availability of financial aid has not kept pace with increased costs and decreases in State aid. As result, many talented, deserving students still struggle financially to stay in school on a full-time basis. If you have not had a chance to make your gift in FY19, it isn’t too late. Remember that gifts of all sizes are appreciated.

On behalf of all the members of the ECSU Foundation Board of Directors, I want to express our appreciation for your continued support of Eastern. We are proud to report that in FY18 the external audit by Cohn Reznick again resulted in an unqualified opinion due to the careful attention to detail by the Foundation staff and management.

Thank you.
