CHANGE IN POLICY – ECSU FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Until this past spring 2013 term, the ECSU Foundation awarded Competitive Scholarships to Eastern upperclassmen, based on their academic achievement at Eastern and other criteria established by donors when they created the scholarships. If you were awarded a Competitive Scholarships this past spring, you are receiving your award in the current (2013-14) academic year.
Because Eastern's total financial aid resources for students have been shrinking over the past several years as a result of reductions in our federal and state funding sources, restricted scholarship funds raised annually by the Division of Institutional Advancement have become even more critical in meeting our students' unmet financial need. Accordingly, the ECSU Foundation Board of Directors has decided to no longer award its resources as Competitive Scholarships, but rather to make these resources available directly to the Office of Financial Aid.
Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by March 1 to receive the best consideration for available aid and those students currently receiving "Competitive Scholarships" need only meet the stated donor criteria to continue to receive the scholarship next fall. This change will take effect for the 2014-15 academic year and award cycle, and, not only will it allow the Foundation's resources to help more students, but it will also reduce the work of students in applying for aid at Eastern.
