Samantha Landry,
President
Class of 2017
Major: Communication
Hometown: Rumford, RI
High School: East Providence High
Samantha LandryWhat is one piece of advice you'd give to a high school senior?
If you are interested in a University, go on a campus tour before you apply! Even if you aren't extremely interested in one school or it is your "safety" school, still go on a tour you may end up loving it! A campus tour can make a huge difference!

What are you involved in at Eastern?
Here is a little bit about me and what I am involved in on campus! I am a student worker in the Office of Admissions. For two summers, I was what we call a SOC (Student Orientation Counselor). Of the 85+ plus clubs, there was not one for out-of-state students, so I just recently started an club called the ConNOTicuts- the Out-Of-State Student Association, I am president of the Student Ambassador Program, a member of the Environmental Club and I also play intramural soccer and volleyball!

What is it like living on Eastern's campus?
Living on campus has been by far one of my favorite experiences. I lived in Crandall Hall my freshmen year, which is one of the traditional style housing options Eastern offers. I LOVED LIVING HERE! I did not know a single person coming to Eastern, so by living here freshmen year I was able to meet all of my friends. I knew the entire building by about the second week. I felt so welcome and I loved the community feel of this building. I highly recommend to all incoming freshmen, male or female to consider living here. As for my upperclassmen years, I had a single bedroom with three other girls, all of which I met in Crandall, we had a kitchen, common living space, bathroom and shower all within the suite and a huge pantry!

Do your research! It is important to know exactly what you are looking for in a college so don't be afraid to visit many schools, or the same school many times!

Why did you choose Eastern?
I chose Eastern because it has everything I was looking for in a college! It has the exact major I wanted, the small class sizes are unbeatable, and the campus has a community feel to it!

What are you involved in at Eastern?
I am currently the VP for Student Ambassadors, I am a member of LEAP which is a leadership organization here on campus and I play on a few intramural sports teams.

Start the college process early so you have plenty of time to decide and make a pros and cons list for every school you apply to.

One thing you would like to accomplish at Eastern?

Taylor Herold
Class of 2017
Major: Communication
Hometown: Glastonbury, CT
High School: Glastonbury High
Taylor HeroldWhy Eastern?
I chose Eastern for the small class size and thousands of opportunities to get involved. Here at Eastern you're so much more than just a number and that is something that I really love. I really feel at home here and everyone I've met in my time here has become a second family.

What's your favorite place off campus?
Diana's Pool and Willibrew!

What is your major, and why did you choose it?
My major is communication. I chose it because it is a really interesting field of study and I hope to further my education by going to grad school for Student Affairs and Higher Education. One day I would like to work on a college campus in the Student Activities or Admissions Office.
Heather Murray
Class of 2017
Major: Business Administration
Hometown: Enfield, CT
High School: Enrico Fermi High
Heather MurrayWhy did you choose Eastern?
I chose Eastern because of the small class sizes. I wanted a learning environment that would allow me to connect with my professors and peers. I wanted my professors to know my name; I didn't just want to be a number. Eastern offered that for me.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish at Eastern?
I would like to earn Dean's List every semester.

One more thing!
Going away to college is definitely a stressful experience for the whole family. Students are nervous but excited to be on their own for the first time. Parents are terrified to let their children go. I would tell prospective families to enjoy the experience as much as they can because despite all of the stress, it can really bring your family closer together.
Lauren Polansky
Class of 2017
Major: Environmental Earth Science
Hometown: Milford, CT
High School: Joseph A. Foran High
Lauren PolanskyWhat is one piece of advice you'd give to a high school senior?
One piece of advice I would give to high school seniors is that it is okay to be unsure of what you want to do. As long as you can continue to do things that interest you, along the way you will start to eliminate those you no longer enjoy and one day things will just fall into place. It may not be right away, but you have plenty of time to decide "what you want to be when you grow up."

Favorite place off campus?
My favorite place off campus is Thread City Diner. I dream of their bacon and egg sandwiches.

What are you involved in at Eastern?
I am involved with the Environmental Club, I completed all three tiers of LEAP Into Leadership, this is my third year as a Student Ambassador, I was on the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field team for two years and I have worked two summers as a Student Orientation Counselor and this last summer as a Head Student Orientation Counselor.
Morgan Preiss
Class of 2017
Major: Environmental Earth Science
Hometown: Milford, CT
High School: Foran High
Morgan PreissWhy did you choose Eastern?
I chose Eastern for two main reasons, one being the class size. I love the fact that all of my professors know my name and that I'm not just a number in the crowd. Second the campus is absolutely beautiful and I love being able to walk around in a gorgeous place.

What's your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus would definitely be the science building. I spend about 90% of my time here and it is one of the prettiest buildings on campus in my opinion.

One more thing!
I am a really outgoing and fun person, Eastern fits my personality perfectly and I truly could not imagine my self anywhere else! I love being able to share my experiences with prospective Eastern students because being able to relate to them could really help to make that final decision in which university you want to attend and I think that is so important.

Hometown: Danbury, CT
High School: Danbury High
Jenna DunnWhy did you choose Eastern?
Not only does Eastern have a well noticed education program, but a library with long hours, academic support services, small classes, invested faculty and a beautiful campus community to live on, which were all qualities I was looking for. I knew that I wanted to get a rich experience here at Eastern by taking advantage of all it has to offer.

Favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the curriculum center in the library. As an education major this is my home, where I spend majority of my time hunting for high quality literature and looking through all of the free resources Eastern has to offer. The librarians are extremely friendly and are eager to help me find materials I need in order to help me succeed in any of my classes. It is just a friendly place where I can focus on homework, and dedicate some of my free time to.

What are you involved in on campus?

The Student Center has lots of cool events every day. I enjoy watching the movies they put on, and the small music performances.

I didn't imagine myself attending Eastern when I was nearing graduation. But after deciding to attend, and meeting the amazing people here, I can say for certain that it has been the best decision I've made. I've developed as an individual in ways I never imagined, and become confident with myself as I prepare for my future. Eastern is a great place to learn and it's exciting to be part of this community.
Carissa Robinson
Class of 2018
Major: Visual Art
Hometown: Cromwell, CT
High School: Cromwell High School
Carissa RobinsonWhat is one piece of advice you'd give to a high school senior?
I would suggest to really go and visit the schools you are interested in. By being physically there on campus you can really get a feel of what it's like there. Sometimes the school may look and seem great, but once you go there the feeling can change. So go visit schools and trust your gut about how they make you feel.

One thing you would like to accomplish at Eastern?
I would like to accomplish enhancing my art skills at Eastern. I've always wanted to be better at basic art such as painting and drawing. So far I am definitely getting better by taking art classes!

Shayna Blumell
Class of 2019
Major: Business Administration
Hometown: New Haven, CT
High School: Hill Regional Career High
Shayna BlumellWhy did you choose your major?
My major is Business Administration (concentration in Management) and my minor is Theatre. I chose these two as my major and minor because someday I plan to own my own performing arts studio while, writing, producing, and directing stage and screen plays/movies.

Why did you choose Eastern?
I chose Eastern because the campus is a small enough size that I felt comfortable in. The class sizes are manageable and it gives you a chance to know the professor and for them to know you. And finally the university offered both my major and minor while being far enough away from home but not too far. I think this campus is distinctive because it's a liberal arts college and we have many opportunities that some universities may not offer.

What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the MAC (Math Achievement Center) due to the resources and tools available to help you succeed in class.

Alexa SpallaWhat is one piece of advice you'd give to a high school senior?
One piece of advice I would give to a high school senior is, it is perfectly normal to not know what you want to major in when going to college. Originally I was a psych major with a sociology minor, then I changed to Sport and Leisure Management with a psych minor, and now I have no minor, so that I have more time to focus on classes that I need to take in addition to the SLM classes in order to get into grad school for PT.

I would like to make Dean's List every year at Eastern.

What are you involved in at Eastern?

High School: Stonington High
Koren ThomasWhy did you choose Eastern?
I chose Eastern because of the location. Eastern is separated enough from the Willimantic area to have our own campus but close enough that I can easily walk into town whenever I want. The other schools I visited were either directly in the city or miles away, Eastern gives me the perfect balance of small town feel and city life that I wanted.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish at Eastern?
During the short time I've spent at Eastern I have already made a point to be involved. I want to do as much as possible in terms of volunteering, community service and just helping others. We have so many opportunities at Eastern to better the local community, certain causes and organizations and so much more so I plan to take full advantage of those opportunities and make a difference.

What's your favorite place off campus?
My favorite place off campus is Greg's Pizza. My friends and I have been a few times and the pizza has always been great!

Why Eastern?
I chose Eastern for many reasons. First, I loved the class sizes in order to have a better relationship with my professor and to be able to connect more with my peers. Second, the university provides you with a large variety of majors if you begin the school year undecided. Finally, I absolutely loved the campus. My friends and I are planning on starting a badminton club sport in the spring but until then I am a Student Ambassador, and soon will be a part of knitting club.

What is something you've already accomplished during your time here?

One more thing!
Don't be afraid if you don't know your roommates before you get here. I am in a triple and didn't know either of my roommates before move in day. But now we are really close and we hang out all the time! So even if you don't know them don't worry, they're in the same situation as you but once you get to know each other you will become great friends.

If I were to give a high school senior one piece of advice, it would be to enjoy senior year and make memories. Senior year flies by so fast and it honestly is the best year of them all. Your studies are important too, but you want to make memories that will last forever and will give you a good send off as you and your friends all leave for college.

One thing you would like to accomplish at Eastern?
One thing I would like to accomplish in 4 years is making life long friends. I'll get my degree, because that's what I'm here for, but making those friends that will be with you for the rest of your life is so important. Creating that bond and having someone to laugh with and study with and even room with during and after college is priceless.

What is it like living on Eastern's campus?
I love living on campus. I've met a ton of friends who live in my dorm and even some who don't. I love having people over and just hanging out in our common room or going to someone else's room and being able to just walk across the hall when I'm tired and want to go to bed. My roommates and I are really close and I love getting to spend all this time with them and going to different activities on campus with them. Living on campus truly is an awesome experience.

I chose Eastern for a couple of reasons, one being the small class sizes. It's a very friendly environment and I would definitely recommend living in Crandall. In addition, living on Eastern's campus is a great way to get involved and attend events. I chose Eastern because of its really small class sizes. This sounds very cliche, but I learn best when I get more of a one on one experience. I also love how close you can get with your teachers. I also chose Eastern because I thought it was just a beautiful campus, and not very people that I knew came here so it gave me the opportunity to start over.

My favorite memory was playing Cards Against Humanity with friends in the dorm. We played during the first week of school and played until all the cards ran out. It was really fun because we all did not really know each other and eventually became best friends. We created a College Playlist which consisted of Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, and High School Musical. It was so much fun!
