Career Development Program

Career Development Program

The Career Development Program was created in collaboration with Eastern’s Center for Internships and Career Development. The program aims to assist students with disabilities in cultivating skills and knowledge needed to navigate and succeed in the workplace. Several topics are addressed, including career choices, resumes and cover letters, obtaining and succeeding in interviews for internships and jobs, first impressions and body language, time management, and networking. The program consists of 1-hour group sessions over the course of 6-8 weeks.

Program Topics

  • Choosing a career path: Analyzing strengths and weaknesses in conjunction with career (environment, job duties)
  • Resume and Cover Letters
  • First Impressions, body language, and small talk (incorporate managing anger, anxiety at work)
  • Disclosure at the workplace (possibly include time-management/executive functioning)
  • Interviewing Skills and Networking for landing interviews for jobs and internships

“The most important thing I have learned is about advocating for myself. This is a skill that will help me before and after graduation, and working in the career of my choice.”
